Hi
Welcome to My Healthy Temple. This is my space to talk about looking after myself.
They say “Your body is a temple” – it’s in the bible actually. I would characterise myself as spiritual, rather than religious. So I looked elsewhere for interpretations of what that means. The Urban Dictionary says:
It’s a metaphor for saying that one’s body is sacred, and so one should treat it well and with respect, as you would to a sacred temple.
Living in Harmony with your Body
The key to living in harmony with your body is to take care of it. If you don’t, it will start to rebel. As we get older, this becomes more and more key. We need to give our body the right foods to nourish it. We need to exercise and use our body, so that it still does the things we want it to do. We need to get the right about of rest, so that it has a chance to renew. We need to listen to it to spot when it needs a change or an intervention, so we can heal ourselves or seek help with that from others.
Maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle will help to keep the body in harmony with food, exercise, sleep and water. My Healthy Temple aims to help you achieve this.
Body and Mind in Harmony
It is not uncommon to hear people say that “mind and body are in harmony” when someone is in good mental and physical health. The practice of remembering this phrase could be key in preventing health problems, according to a study by researchers at Carnegie Mellon University.
A previous study by the same team found that this phrase helped people ward off post-workout stress. The team explored how often participants said the phrase “body and mind are in harmony” during their regular days, then analyzed how many reported muscle soreness or headaches. It seems that when the body and mind are working together, things run much more smoothly.
A Healthy Mind
The mind is the most important part of our body. It should be protected and taken care of. Too often mental health gets ignored or forgotten. This never works out in the long run. It’s important to set aside time in your schedule to take care of your mind too. Enough sleep will help. Building in down time is essential. Many people find getting outdoors regularly helps enormously. Exercise can help you switch off from the strains and stresses of every day life. You can keep your mind active by doing puzzles or learning a new skill. Making sure you exercise your social muscles regularly will help you draw on a support network when you need it.
Conclusion
I’m going to be writing about a wide range of topics covering health, well being, exercise, food and more. Hopefully, you will join me on a journey towards a healthier you with your mind and body in harmony. Don’t forget ‘your body is a temple’ treat it with respect.
